Uzbekistan and China discussed the opportunities for partnership in the sphere of energy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, (UzDaily.uz) – Uzbekistan and China held the 4th meeting on cooperation in the sphere of energy.

The meeting took place on 8 September in Tashkent. The meeting featured the representatives of ministries and federal agencies, major energy companies from Uzbekistan and China.

During the meeting, the parties examined the current collaboration status, most pressing issues and the prospects for further partnership. Besides, the representatives discussed the implementation of promising energy projects.

Uzbekistan approved a package of measures aimed at further development of hydropower and the construction of small and medium hydropower stations in Uzbekistan, $2.6bn worth.

In May 2017, the State Investment Committee of the Uzbekistan Republic and Chinese Ministry of Commerce signed a collaboration agreement, regulating the construction of small and medium hydropower stations in Uzbekistan, $2.7bn worth.

Uzbekistan also approved the programme for further development and modernisation of coal industry, scheduled for 2017-2021. According to the programme, it is planned to triple the extraction volumes.

The parties discussed the issues related to the provision of energy-efficiency and RES development.

The representatives of both countries discussed the ways of attracting Chinese investments in fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan.

Within the state investment programme for 2017, it is planned to implement several investment projects in Uzbekistan, amounting to $878m, including $489m (55%) of direct investment and 44.3% of loans insured by the Government.
