The FINANCIAL — First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili participated in the presentation of the USAID new energy program, which was held at the Georgian State Electrosystem.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the US to Georgia, H.E. Ian C. Kelly and the USAID Energy Program Manager, Jake Delphia also attended the presentation.

In his speech at the presentation, the First Vice Prime Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili expressed gratefulness to the US Government and the USAID for supporting Georgia. Kumsishvili highlighted that the US is a strategic partner to Georgia while the USAID-backed projects help Georgia in the process of democracy building and cover the initiatives aimed at acceleration of the economic development of the country, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Dimitry Kumsishvili noted that the investments amounting to several hundred million USD has been implemented in Georgia’s economy with the direct assistance of the USAID. He gave very high evaluation of all the significant projects implemented in the Georgian energy sector and noted that these projects also played a major role in attracting investments in Georgia’s hydropower sector.

Speaking about the new energy program, the First Vice Prime Minister said that it would contribute to the development of Georgia’s energy market in order to perfect it in compliance with the obligations under the Energy Community Agreement of Georgia. In addition, the project will encourage investments in the energy sector, support the development of the renewable energy sources and the integration of non-renewable energy sources in the power system. It will also provide strategic advisory services to the Government of Georgia aiming at strengthening the energy security.

At the end of the presentation, the CEO of the JSC Georgian State Electrosystem, Sulkhan Zumburidze, guided the honorable guest to show the National Dispensary Center and the control panel.

USAID Energy Program (UEP) is a 7.5 million-worth three-year project aimed at supporting the development o f the Georgia’s energy market development, cross-border electricity trade opportunities, optimization of the energy investment, integration into the renewable energy networks and provision of the strategic advisory services to the Government of Georgia for increasing energy security of the country.
